The line up for the 2025 Listening at the Legion concert series includes some crowd favorites and some new artists. The series will kick off Jan. 18 with Brad Fitch performing original songs, and Leslie Mendelson, Poudre Valley Playboys, Blue Canyon Boys, 5280 A Cappella, Lady Psychiatrist’s Booth, and Spinphony will return to the intimate listening room venue.
While many of the concerts in the Listening at the Legion series feature country, western, and traditional American folk singers and songwriters, there are some surprises in the mix.
AVID — Artistic Ventures in Dance — is a project based dance company founded to encourage innovative ideas and creative expression. The dance troupe is located in Colorado however they don’t call any one place home. Blending ballet traditions and innovative art, AVID is collection of world class artists from around the nation who come together for projects designed to cultivate collaboration and establish genuine connection.
Spinphony is a Denver-based, all-female electric string quartet that breaks down barriers between classical, rock, and pop music, and mixes and mashes catchy melodies into their own unique arrangements. Whether you’re a fan of Bach, ACDC, Journey, or Mozart, Spinphony will have you rocking out to the greatest melodies of all time.
5280 A Cappella is another mile-high music phenomena. Celebrating 18 years of performing together, this eclectic and award-winning group of singers takes their audiences on an entertaining journey over the landscape of American music with jaunts through: rock and roll, jazz, country, folk, soul, doo-wop, sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties, and pop hits from today.
Lady Psychiatrist’s Booth is San Diego’s high energy all female Americana band. Lee Zimmerman of Goldmine magazine described the group this way: “Once you land on Lady Psychiatrist’s couch, you may never want to leave.” They are a little creepy, a little funny, and a whole lot of heart. All four members of the group will grace the stage for this not to miss performance.

In a recent interview with the Estes Valley Voice, John Minier, commander of the Estes Park American Legion Post 119, explained his vision for the local legion to insure it continues to serve and honor veterans by becoming a community center for the Estes Valley. And the Listening at the Legion series is part of that vision.
First, the concerts provide the Estes Valley community with a variety of high quality and diverse acts.
Second, the Legion provides local, regional, and national artists with a unique venue to perform in front of a small audience. According to Minier, a listening room format is different than a bar where music is a backdrop to drinks and discussions. A listening room is an intimate concert hall where not only can a songwriter’s lyrics and music can be heard but a storytelling interaction can take place between the performer and the audience.
And third, the concert series has provided an important revenue stream for Legion which has allowed the facility to make needed updates to meet the needs of service veterans, their families, and the veterans’ community.
This winter, the bar and front game room will undergo a renovation to transform the area into The Tavern at the Legion and Home of Duncan’s Diner named in honor of Joseph J. Duncan, Jr., an Estes Park war hero who was killed in Italy during the waning days of World War II.
“We want the Legion to be a place where veterans are honored and respected for their service and where the community thinks of as a place to come and bring the family for dinner,” said Minier.
