A&E: This Weekend, August 7-9

If last weekend belonged to jazz, this one belongs to the visual arts and wine. Galleries throw open their doors for First Friday Art Groove, Bond Park fills with wine lovers, and live music spills out from breweries, patios, and taverns nearly every night. Here’s what’s happening around Estes Park this weekend, August 7-9.

‘Spider-Man’ stays at the Historic Park Theatre

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” follows Peter Parker as he fights crime in a world that has forgotten who he is as a result of the previous film’s magical events. The film is slated to play at the Park Theatre through Thursday, Aug. 20. The Park Theatre also provides a history tour on Friday, Aug. 7, at 3 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 3:30 p.m.; a haunted ghost tour on Friday, Aug. 7, and Saturday, Aug. 8, at 6:30 p.m.; and a late-night ghost hunt both evenings at 10 p.m. “The Mask” will screen for free on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m., and “Only Yesterday” plays on Sunday, Aug. 9, at 4 p.m.

‘A Jeweler, a Painter and a Sculptor All Walk into a Gallery’ at the Art Center

The Art Center of Estes Park’s new exhibition, “A Jeweler, a Painter, and a Sculptor All Walk Into a Gallery,” is on view until Aug. 26. The free show features the work of jewelry artist Alice League, painter Diana Wade, and guest sculptor Mike Dwyer. The exhibit is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

First Friday! Art Groove

Explore Estes Park’s creative side during First Friday! Art Groove on Friday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. This free, self-guided art walk invites visitors to explore galleries, artist studios, and creative spaces throughout downtown. Highlights include live artist demonstrations, gallery receptions, music, refreshments, and opportunities to meet local and regional artists. Participating stops include the Art Center of Estes Park, Aspen and Evergreen Gallery, Earthwood Collections, the Estes Arts District Gallery & Workspace, and several other galleries, breweries, and tasting rooms, making it an ideal evening to discover what’s new in the local arts scene. Live Music at The Slab

The Slab Outdoor Pub keeps the music playing all weekend with another lineup of free live performances. Nick Wagner kicks things off Friday, Aug. 7, from 1 to 5 p.m., followed by No Lane Road from 6 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, Gregg Green performs from noon to 4 p.m. before Michael Stropelli takes the stage from 6 to 9 p.m. The weekend wraps up Sunday, Aug. 9, with Neilson & Nicholson performing from 1 to 5 p.m.

Friday Night at the Commons

Start your weekend at Friday Night at the Commons on Friday, Aug. 7, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Cleave Street Commons. This free community gathering brings together live music, neighbors, and visitors for a relaxed summer evening in the heart of Estes Park.

Joseph Lingenfelter at the Rockslide Patio Bar

Enjoy live music on the banks of Fall River as Joseph Lingenfelter performs at the Rockslide Patio Bar at the Inn on Fall River on Friday, Aug. 7, and Saturday, Aug. 8, from 5 to 9 p.m. If you can’t make it this weekend, don’t worry. Lingenfelter will be performing at Rockslide every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from now until September.

Friday Live Music at Snowy Peaks Winery

Marty Astry performs live in the tasting room at Snowy Peaks Winery on Friday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. The show is free to attend, but seats in the tasting room fill up quickly, so reservations are advised. Call 970-586-2099 to reserve your table.

Jay Roemer at The Publick House

Listen to live music from Jay Roemer at Lumpy Ridge Brewing Co.’s Publick House on Friday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. The free performance provides the perfect soundtrack for an evening of relaxed summer vibes in downtown Estes Park.

A Weekend of Live Music at The Rock Inn

The Rock Inn Mountain Tavern welcomes another weekend of free live music with three accomplished Colorado performers. Jon Pickett, bassist and vocalist for Chain Station, opens the weekend Friday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a mix of soulful originals and inventive covers. On Saturday, Aug. 8, singer-songwriter Jay Roemer takes the stage from 5 to 8 p.m., followed by acclaimed multi-instrumentalist David Tiller on Sunday, Aug. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Coldies at American Legion Post 119

Kick off the weekend with live music from The Coldies at American Legion Post 119 on Friday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. Known for their energetic blend of blues, rock, outlaw country, and crowd-pleasing favorites, the Colorado band delivers a lively soundtrack for a summer evening. Admission is free, so arrive early for happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m., grab dinner from the Legion tavern, and stick around for the Queen of Hearts drawing at 7 p.m.

Live Music at Bogey’s on the Rooftop

Bogey’s Sports Bar brings another weekend of live music to its rooftop stage with three nights of free performances. Great American Nowhere kicks things off Friday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 8, Wesley Scott and the Silver Dollars play from 6 to 9 p.m. The weekend wraps up Sunday, Aug. 9, from 3 to 5 p.m. as 10 Year Echo performs an eclectic mix of classic rock, country, and bluegrass favorites perfect for dancing and sing-alongs.

Karaoke Night at Lonigans

Take the stage at Lonigans (106 W. Elkhorn Ave.) for its free karaoke night, happening every Friday and Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight. It’s the perfect late-night outing for those looking to get their sing on.

Estes Recycles Day

Clear out your garage, office, or storage room during Estes Recycles Day on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Estes Park Events Complex. Hosted by the Community Recycling Committee, the event accepts electronics, paper documents for secure shredding, scrap metal, and other hard-to-recycle items, making it easy to dispose of materials responsibly. The Rotary Club will also collect mobility devices for its Crutches for Africa program, giving walkers, crutches, and other equipment a second life helping people in need.

Saturday Artisan Market

Browse handcrafted goods and meet local makers during the Saturday Artisan Market at Cleave Street Commons on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The free community event brings together artists, artisans, and creative vendors in the heart of downtown Estes Park, offering everything from handmade gifts and artwork to locally crafted products.

Estes Park Wine Festival

Raise a glass at the 11th Annual Estes Park Wine Festival, returning to Bond Park on Saturday, Aug. 8, and Sunday, Aug. 9. The 21-and-over event features unlimited tastings from participating wineries, live music, food vendors, artisans, and retail booths in the heart of downtown Estes Park. Admission includes a commemorative wine glass and tote, while VIP tickets add access to an exclusive tent with catered food from Claire’s Restaurant and a premium wine bar. The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Non-drinker and designated driver tickets are available at the gate for $10.

Avant Garde Summer Concert Series

The Avant Garde Aleworks Summer Concert Series continues on Saturday, Aug. 8, with a free performance by Snow Belt Bluegrass from 6 to 8 p.m. Settle in on the brewery’s patio with a craft beer, enjoy fare from a rotating food truck, and take in an evening of bluegrass music in a relaxed outdoor setting overlooking Lake Estes.

Sundays at the Commons

Slow down and enjoy a laid-back afternoon at Sundays at the Commons on Sunday, Aug. 9, from noon to 4 p.m. at Cleave Street Commons. This free community gathering offers a welcoming space to relax, connect with neighbors, and enjoy family-friendly activities. 

Sunday Dinner Live Music at Lonigans

Wrap up the weekend with good food, craft cocktails, and live tunes at Lonigans (106 W. Elkhorn Ave.). Every Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m., the pub hosts free live music in a family-friendly setting.
