The Estes Valley Fire Protection District announced Friday that it has promoted two longtime members of its volunteer force, naming Nathan Meulener as volunteer captain and Trevor Igel as volunteer fire lieutenant.
Meulener has served with EVFPD since 2013, including nearly 10 years as a volunteer lieutenant. A 2017 EVFPD Officer of the Year, he is certified as a Firefighter II, Instructor I, Division of Fire Prevention and Control proctor, HazMat Operations technician, Surface Ice Rescue technician, and engineer on all district apparatus. As volunteer captain, Meulener will supervise company lieutenants, support training and personnel development, and help lead emergency operations.
Igel joined the district in 2022 and is a Colorado licensed professional engineer with a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from Colorado State University. He is certified as a Firefighter II, EMT, Instructor I, DFPC proctor, HazMat Operations technician, National Wildfire Coordinating Group Firefighter 2, Ice Rescue Technician, and Swiftwater 1 and 2 Instructor. In his new role as volunteer lieutenant, Igel will supervise an assigned squad, assist with department training, and support emergency response operations.
