As travelers prepare for the three-day Fourth of July holiday weekend, Colorado’s statewide average price for regular gasoline is $3.70 per gallon, while mid-grade averages $4.08. One Estes Valley Voice reader reported paying just $3.26 per gallon Sunday at the Interstate 25 Exit 243 interchange with Colorado Highway 66, a popular route for visitors heading to Estes Park.
Nationally, the average price for regular gasoline is $3.86 per gallon. Drivers on the West Coast continue to face the nation’s highest fuel costs, with prices in the Los Angeles-Long Beach area averaging about $5.50 per gallon.
Although gasoline prices have declined over the past month, fuel costs—combined with the current annual inflation rate of 4.2%—are still expected to affect many families’ travel and spending plans during the busy holiday weekend.
In Estes Park, the lowest reported weekend price for regular gasoline was $3.99 9/10 per gallon at the locally owned Conoco station on Moraine Avenue near Country Market. Loaf’ N Jug was charging $4.62 9/10 per gallon with its membership discount, while the highest local price was $4.83 9/10 per gallon at the Sinclair station on Highway 7. Regular gasoline was also selling for $4.73 9/10 per gallon at both the Safeway Fuel Center on Big Thompson Avenue and the Shell station on Highway 7.
