While the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline has fallen to $3.99, the first time it has dipped below $4 since March, gas in Estes remained above $4 over the weekend, ranging from a high of $4.79 9/10 at the Sinclair on Moraine Ave to a low of $4.19 9/10 at the Conoco a few doors away.

Gas at four local filling stations —the Loaf ‘N Jug and Safeway on Big Thompson Ave and the Shell and Sinclair stations on U.S. Highway 7 — was $4.73 9/10 a gallon, with member pricing at Loaf ‘N Jug at $4.63 9/10.

The average price per gallon today in Colorado is $3.84, according to AAA.

The decline follows a nearly 15% drop in crude oil prices as post-Memorial Day demand softened.

Despite the recent price break, gasoline remains about 25% more expensive than it was a year ago.

  1. This is clear price gouging! We are a full dollar higher than nearby front range towns. I travel around the southwest by car quite a bit and go to many out of the way small towns. These small towns have the same low prices as the larger towns and cities that I visit. Estes Park is not nearly as out of the way (perhaps 20 miles from Lyons or Loveland, which is not very far and shouldn’t result in a large shipping fee) as many of the towns that I visit, so the excuse that no one will bring gas to Estes at a competitive price is ridiculous. We are being gouged, plain as day (even by the large Safeway Corporation)! Most people just gas up in Lyons, Longmont, Loveland, etc. to avoid the inflated Estes Park gasoline prices. Just imagine how much tax revenue is lost by our town due to this bogus situation. We have at least six gas stations here and they would all be much busier if their prices were not so much higher than anywhere else, so lack of wholesale business by the gas distributers (if they are the ones jacking up the prices) is not good reason either. There is plenty of wholesale business here that should minimize the need for wholesale surcharges to get the gas to Estes Park. This should be investigated to a much deeper level. Seems like a bit of a scandal.
