Paint recycling event set for Saturday
Residents with leftover paint and stain products can recycle them Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during a special collection event at Ace Hardware, 521 Lone Pine Drive.
Accepted products include latex and oil-based paints and primers, stains, deck and concrete sealers, and clear finishes. Materials must be brought in their original, sealed containers with the manufacturer’s label intact.
While drop-in disposals will be accepted, organizers encourage advance registration to help with staffing. Registration is available online and on-site on the day of the event.
Usable leftover paint will be offered for giveaway at no cost.

The event is sponsored by PaintCare, a nonprofit organization that manages paint recycling stewardship programs. The last community paint collection event in Estes Park was held five years ago.
Estes Park sales tax collections fall 10.4 percent in April
Sales tax receipts for April economic activity in the Town of Estes Park fell sharply from those of April 2025, coming in with a 10.38-percent decrease.
Even with the drop, year-to-date sales tax collections are up 3.2 percent over 2025. Receipts in April that were remitted to the state department of revenue in May and provided to the town in June totaled $1,284,737.80.
Collections for the same period in 2025 were $1,433,505.38. Through March, collections remained strong, though slightly behind expectations. March year-to-date sales tax revenue was 2.23 percent below the town’s budget projections, and March sales tax collections were 2.28 percent below budget.
The totals reported this week by the town finance department differ sharply from last year, when March 2025 collections increased by 15.43 percent over 2024. A full breakdown of sales by sector is not expected to be released until later this month.
Estes Park expects to proceed with July 4 fireworks show
Estes Park officials say the community’s Independence Day fireworks display remains on schedule despite continued abnormally dry conditions in the area.
The fireworks show over Lake Estes is expected to proceed as planned, although town officials said weather and fire conditions will continue to be monitored leading up to July 4.
“The town will not hesitate to cancel or postpone the display should conditions like high fire danger, significant winds, or other dangerous weather present a risk,” Public Information Officer Kate Miller said.
Miller said the town is not considering replacing the fireworks display with a drone show if conditions force a cancellation.
Fire restrictions currently in effect throughout the Estes Valley and Larimer County prohibit open burning, smoking in the open, and the use of charcoal and pellet-fueled barbecue grills.
In Rocky Mountain National Park, campfires, grills, and charcoal briquettes are prohibited except in designated campfire rings, select wilderness campsites, some picnic areas, and certain front-country campgrounds. Visitors with questions about fire regulations in the park should contact park staff.
