The Estes Valley Fire Protection District Board of Directors has selected four finalists in its search for the agency’s next fire chief, advancing candidates from a field of 19 applicants. The finalists are Peter Bryan, Jason Clark, Marc Mahoney, and Kevin Nunn.
The candidates have been invited to visit Estes Park June 17-18 for interviews with board members, staff, community partners, and residents.
A community meet-and-greet will be held on June 17, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dannels Fire Station, 901 N. St. Vrain Avenue.
Peter Bryan
Peter Bryan brings more than four decades of fire service experience, beginning his career with the City of Victorville Fire Department in California in 1973. During a 45-year career in public safety, he rose from firefighter to fire chief and served in leadership positions with fire departments in Upland, Norco, Monrovia, Rancho Cucamonga, Hemet, and Wheatland, California. Since 2026, he has served as volunteer coordinator for Black Forest Fire Rescue in Colorado.
Bryan holds a bachelor’s degree in fire protection administration and technology from California State University, Los Angeles, and a master’s degree in fire protection administration from Pacific Western University. He is a credentialed California fire chief and chief officer and is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the International Association of Fire Fighters and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers.
Jason Clark
Jason Clark has more than 30 years of fire service experience, serving in operational, training, prevention, and command roles. His career has included positions ranging from volunteer firefighter and fire inspector to battalion chief, training division chief, and special operations division chief.
Clark has served with the Eagle River Fire Protection District since 2018 and is currently the district’s special operations division chief. He holds a bachelor’s degree in fire protection and safety engineering technology from Oklahoma State University and has earned the Chief Fire Officer designation through the Center for Public Safety Excellence.
Mark Mahoney
Mark Mahoney has more than 27 years of experience in fire and emergency services. His career has included assignments as a firefighter, engineer, lieutenant, division chief of training, shift commander, fire captain, emergency manager and fire chief.
Most recently, Mahoney served for seven years as fire chief for the City of Federal Heights, Colorado, where he also served as the city’s emergency manager. In those roles, he oversaw fire department operations, emergency preparedness, budgeting, personnel management, and regional emergency response partnerships. Mahoney holds a master’s degree in disaster preparedness and executive fire leadership from Grand Canyon University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in public safety administration.
Kevin Nunn
Kevin Nunn currently serves as fire chief of the North Tooele Fire District in Utah. He began his public service career in 2001 with Larimer County Emergency Services in Colorado and later served with the City of Pigeon Forge Fire Department and the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department in Tennessee.
Nunn has held a variety of firefighting, training, leadership, and emergency management positions throughout his career. Before becoming fire chief in Tooele County, he served as an emergency management specialist at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Tennessee. He holds a master’s degree in emergency management from Eastern Kentucky University and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology from Purdue University.
