As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, Larimer County Commissioner Jody Shadduck-McNally will host a community conversation in Estes Park with Ruth Krug and Estes Park Mayor Gary Hall, exploring how time in nature and social connection can support mental wellness.
The event, titled “The Healing Power of Nature,” will be held on Thursday, May 14, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Estes Park Town Hall.
Krug, a licensed clinical social worker, joined the Larimer County Behavioral Health Services Department in April as the workforce program manager. Her role focuses on recruitment, professional development, and retention strategies for the behavioral health workforce.

Krug has been an adjunct professor at Colorado State University’s School of Social Work. Trained in Internal Family Systems, Somatic Therapy, and trauma-informed care, Krug maintains a private practice as a clinical therapist and trauma-informed yoga therapist. She is also the founder of the Breathing Room PLLC.
Thursday evening’s discussion will focus on the role that outdoor experiences, community relationships, and behavioral health resources can play in improving mental well-being.
Larimer County has made behavioral health a priority in recent years, expanding services and investing in programs aimed at addressing mental health and substance use challenges across the county. The County’s Behavioral Health Services Department is responsible for overseeing the investment of Larimer County’s dedicated behavioral health sales and use tax revenue, approved by voters in 2018 as a 20-year initiative.
The Estes Park event is part of Shadduck-McNally’s ongoing town hall series, which brings county officials and residents together to discuss issues affecting local communities.
Mental Health Awareness Month is observed each May to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage people to seek support when needed.
