The Estes Park School District Board is moving forward in the search for a new superintendent.

The Estes Park School District R-3 Board of Education has reached a key milestone in its search for a new superintendent, reviewing 15 applications, completing initial interviews, and formally naming three finalists for the position.

During a special meeting held Saturday, April 4, the board worked with search firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates to conduct structured interviews with five candidates. The process followed strict guidelines, including timed responses and standardized questions, to ensure fairness and consistency as the board evaluated each applicant.

Board members emphasized that this phase of the process was focused on narrowing the field rather than selecting a final candidate. Much of the discussion and candidate evaluation took place in executive session, as allowed under Colorado law, due to the confidential nature of applicant materials.

Following the interviews, the board reconvened in open session and unanimously approved a resolution naming three finalists: Jeff Casey from Greeley, David Grubbs from Windsor, and Matthew Wright from Delanson, New York. Board members described the decision as difficult, citing the overall strength of the applicant pool.

The superintendent search follows Superintendent Ruby Bode’s January announcement that she will step down after 21 years with the district.

The search process will now move into its next phase, with finalist visits scheduled for April 15 and final interviews set for April 16. Parents, families, and community members will also have an opportunity to meet the candidates in a public session on April 15 from 5:20 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at the Estes Park High School.

The board is expected to make its final selection shortly thereafter.
