The Estes Park Municipal Election is seven weeks from today. The polls at The Estes Park Town Hall will open on April 7 at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Ballots will be in the mail to eligible electors the week of March 16.

There are some important dates and details related to the election to know between now and April 7.

What is on the ballot?

Four of seven seats on the Town Board are up for election. Voters will determine who will occupy seats currently held by Mayor Pro Tem Marie Cenac, who is term-limited, and Trustees Bill Brown, elected in 2024 for a two-year term, Kirby Hazelton, elected in 2022 for a four-year term, and Cindy Younglund, reelected to a second four-year term in 2024, but who is resigning for personal reasons. Younglund’s last Town Board meeting as a Trustee will be on March 24.

Who is running?

There are six candidates for the four seats. They will appear on the ballot in this order: Randy Welch, Bill Brown, Kirby Nelson-Hazelton, Aidan Rosenau, Chris Eshelman, and Jamie Mieras.

How is voting conducted?

Voting is conducted by mail and in person at the Town Hall. Ballots will be mailed the week of March 16 to eligible electors who live in the Town of Estes Park. The candidate receiving the fourth-highest number of votes will be elected to a two-year term to complete Younglund’s term.

How do you establish residency to vote?

March 16 is the last day for electors to establish residency in the State of Colorado.  Voters can click here to register online to vote, or they can register in person at the County Clerk’s office or the Town Clerk’s office up to the day of the election.

How can you get an absentee ballot?

Voters can request an absentee ballot orally or in writing with the Estes Park Town Clerk no later than the close of business on April 3. Click here to fill out and submit the electronic form to request an absentee ballot.

On Wednesday, March 11, the Estes Valley Voice will publish answers to a questionnaire emailed to each candidate on Monday, March 2, and returned by Friday, March 6.

League of Women Voters of Estes Park candidate forum

The League of Women Voters of Estes Park will host a live candidate forum on Thursday, March 12, in the Town Hall Boardroom. The forum will be recorded and available online on the Town’s YouTube channel. Click here to submit questions to the League for the live forum by 5 p.m. Feb. 23.

When is the swearing-in of new trustees?

The newly elected Town Trustee will be sworn in on April 28 at the Town Board meeting.
