Estes Park’s Skijor 2026 is in the rearview mirror, but with two years of experience under their belts, organizers are planning to make some changes for next year’s event.

By the numbers, 9,600 total attendees from 48 states attended the three-day event to see 370 competitors, including 66 from Este Park. The winter sport – which combines rodeoing and waterskiing – was supported by 61 volunteers.

Race director Keven Benes of Running Wild Events, which organizes and promotes the event, will move the 2027 Skijor to March 12-14, 2027, in the hopes that the winter weather will cooperate, with both natural and manufactured snow.

While the inaugural 2025 Skijor was blessed with both an abundance of natural snow and cold weather, warmer temperatures and a lack of snowfall leading up to the event required Benes and his team to use snow-making machines to produce enough snow to create a snow-covered obstacle racecourse with jumps and gates.

The move will also ensure that Skijor does not compete with the Sundance Film Festival, which will take place in Boulder during late January next year.
