This morning, the Estes Park Museum will host a free history walk at 9 a.m. in the heart of downtown Estes.
Anyone interested in a short, half-mile hike from Bond Park to the Historic Birch Ruins and Cabin is welcome to join. Reservations are not required.

Museum staff and volunteers will lead the tour and explain the site’s history along the way. Participants can expect sweeping views over downtown Estes Park and the Continental Divide, including Longs Peak.
The museum recommends that participants bring a water bottle, sunscreen, a sun hat, and good walking shoes. If the weather becomes uncooperative, the event will be canceled. To participate, meet at the Enos Mills statue in Bond Park at 9 a.m. Aug. 14.
Historic Park Theatre events
The first-run movie “Freakier Friday!” is playing at the Historic Park Theatre for one more week. This fantasy/comedy movie follows Tess and Anna years later, when Anna has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. When life and personality switches collide at the worst possible time, insanity begins.
The Theatre is also showing the documentary, “Water, the Sacred Gift,” the winner of two recent Documentary Emmy awards, by Estes Park resident Nick Mollé of the Rocky Mountain Channel. Mollé won for his role as director, and cameraman Sean Doherty was given an Emmy for excellence in photography. This story of the Colorado River is being screened on Wednesdays through August.
Thursday’s special until the end of the month is a screening of “Ghosts of the West,” a film by another local filmmaker, Ethan Nightchilde. This award-winning film tells of the birth and death of ghost towns in the American West. After the screening, writer/director Nightchilde will be available for a question-and-answer period. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the Historic Park Theatre’s website.
