David Morales, 44, turned himself in to the Larimer County Jail at 2 a.m. on August 12.
He is due to make an appearance at 8:30 this morning in courtroom 3B in the Fort Collins Justice Center. He also has a court date set for Aug. 21 at 1:30 p.m. in room L2 in the Loveland Courthouse.
According to the website of the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, no bond has been set and Morales is on an in-state hold because of a “failure to comply “ with a warrant issued by Weld County for being a fugitive.
Morales was wanted in Estes Park for allegedly providing alcohol to minors at a closed business and offenses relating to sex offender registration at an incident in February 2025 at the Twisted Griffin Pub and Restaurant, which was located at 247 W. Elkhorn Ave.
The Estes Park Police Department received a report that Morales hosted a party on Feb. 21 at the Twisted Griffin where alcohol was served to minors by Morales.
Last week, after months of investigation, the EPPD issued arrest warrants for Morales on two counts of failure to register as a sex offender, a class 5 felony; nine counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a first-degree misdemeanor; and five counts of unlawful acts, a second-degree misdemeanor.
When the alleged incident occurred, the Twisted Griffin, owned by David Bard, had just permanently closed. Bard also owned and operated the Hyland Bard gift shop and the Griffin’s Nest Coffee and Tea Pub in Estes Park. Bard was reportedly in arrears with the rent on the restaurant space which was located in the Durward Building.
According to EPPD, a total of fourteen underage victims were identified and interviewed. During the investigation, it was discovered that Morales failed to register as a sex offender as required by Colorado State Law upon moving out of Estes Park following this incident.
In 2010, Weld District Court Judge Thomas Quammen sentenced Morales to 12 years in prison, followed by 10 years of sex-offender specific intensive supervised probation.
According to court records, Morales was initially charged with sex assault, overcoming a victim’s will, and sexual assault against a victim who was incapable of appraising conditions for an attack in 2008, according to court records. As part of a plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to second-degree assault and attempted sexual assault.
