Receipts from sales tax collections through Memorial Day show a very slight decrease in business conducted compared to May a year ago. The May collections received by the town on May 9 totaled $1,748,823.92. In 2024, the monthly total was $1,755,388.14.
However, that 0.37% decrease wasn’t enough to budge the 4.88% total year-to-date increase in sales tax collections seen by the Town of Estes Park after April’s receipts.
According to Sharla Beesley, grant coordinator in the finance department who compiles the information for the town, this initial report of collections received from the state should be considered preliminary until a final analysis is conducted. Data from the forthcoming report later this month will show what impact, if any, delinquent tax submissions have on sales tax submissions.
As a statutory town, businesses submit sales taxes owed to the Colorado Division of Financial Services. After analyzing receipts, the agency distributes appropriate amounts to various taxing districts based on the amounts applicable to each taxing district. The town’s report does not include the 6E lodging tax colleced by Visit Estes Park, the area’s marketing district.
