Nine candidates are vying for the title Mrs. Rooftop Rodeo to raise money for expanded access for early cancer screening for under and uninsured people in the Estes Valley.

The Rooftop Rodeo Parade processed down Elkhorn Avenue this morning under the banner of Paint Estes Pink in collaboration with the Mrs. Rooftop Rodeo Crowns for the Care competition, an annual fundraiser for the Estes Park Health Foundation.

Over the past five weeks, nine community members – Alaina Smith, Pam Dickenson, Nikki Gassmann, Pam Leitner, Jenn Hardin, Jennifer Beck, Kayla Lynott, Iryna Irkliienko, Kelly Kessler – have stepped up to raise funds through a variety of events including:

  • Putt for Pink mini golf at Ride-A-Kart
  • A sale at the Mad Moose and Country Market with a percentage of proceeds set aside for the cause
  • Bunco at Avant Guard Aleworks
  • A lemonade stand in front of the Bank of Estes Park during the Stick Horse Rodeo
  • Beer and Brats at Lumpy Ridge Brewing Co. Publick House
  • A poker tournament at the American Legion Post 119
  • Pirozhkis filled with seasoned meat and hearty potatoes at the Café Mess food truck.
  • A canasta event  and a bunco dinner party hosted in  private homes
  • A silent auction for a dream vacation
  • Drink specials at the Inn on Fall River and Outlaws and Legends Steakhouse
  • A carnival with a dunk tank at the Estes Park Salon

Wearing the campaign’s signature hot pink color, the contestants have tapped into their network of community members, business associates, friends, and family for a healthy blend of compassion and friendly competition. Part of the campaign has involved more than 50 area businesses decorating their windows, lobbies, and shops in pink.

The contestant who brings in the top dollar will be crowned Mrs. Rooftop Rodeo tonight at the rodeo.

This year’s funds will be used not for equipment as in previous years, but for expanded access to early cancer screenings for those who are uninsured or underinsured, and according to the organization’s website, all funds raised in Estes will stay in the community to help locals with early cancer screenings.
