Today is our birthday. While we had a soft launch at the end of May last year, our news publishing platform went live on June 28. Since then, we have published 670 original news articles.

We take pride in being locally owned, journalist-led, and fiercely independent. Our tag line is “news connected to our community.” We believe that old-fashioned boots-on-the-ground journalism remains essential in the digital news landscape.

Thank you for being a reader. Thank you to our subscribers, super subscribers, advertisers, and sponsors for supporting local, community journalism.

The Estes Valley Voice does not have a paywall to read our news. When we began, we believed that if we produced a high-quality, locally focused news product, paid subscribers, super subscribers, advertisers, and sponsors would support the Estes Valley Voice. And they have.

We are growing, and we have some new things to share over the next month, including the Spanish-language translation of our news and a Spanish-language news podcast. We will also conduct another reader survey to gather your feedback, and we are preparing to undertake the Trust Project, an international consortium of news organizations that promotes standards of transparency, accuracy, multiple perspectives, and fairness, enabling the public to make informed news choices.

We strive to stay on mission and to focus our reporting on local news about the people, businesses, and events in the Estes Valley. We are aware that state, national, and international news is essential to the Estes Valley, but our focus is on how that news impacts our community.

We were excited to announce earlier this week that we have been selected as finalists for two 2025 Local Independent Online News Publishers awards: one for Public Service and the other for Community Engagement. That was a terrific birthday-week surprise. The LION awards will be presented in September. Whether or not we win one of the awards, we will remain committed to reporting the news and providing a platform for conversation about it.

Once again, thank you to the Estes Valley community for helping us reach this milestone anniversary.
