The National Park conducted a prescribed burn near the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center in Rocky Mountain National Park on Tuesday, April 15. The controlled fire filled the air around the Estes Valley with smoke throughout the day.

According to Kyle Patterson, the public information officer for RMNP, the burn operations went well, and section of road between the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center and Bear Lake Road junction, which had been closed, reopened about 3 p.m.

It is expected that as the air cools this evening, smoke may settle in low-lying areas overnight.

Wood smoke can affect your health. Populations at greater risk include children, older adults, pregnant people, people with lung disease or heart disease, outdoor workers, and people with limited access to medical care. Individuals at risk should follow their primary care provider’s advice.
