Three Estes Valley area special districts – the Estes Valley Fire Protection District, the Estes Valley Recreation and Park District, and the Park Hospital District – will hold elections on Tuesday, May 6, for seats on their boards of directors.

Special districts are local governments, which include counties, municipalities, school districts, and other types of government entities or political subdivisions such as “authorities” and “special districts.”

Colorado law limits the types of services that county governments can provide to residents. Special districts are created to fill the gaps that may exist in the services counties provide and the services the residents may desire. The majority of districts draw their boundaries in unincorporated county land, but residents of a municipality may be included in one or more districts.

Voters registered in Colorado who live in or own property within each taxing district may vote that district’s ballot if the property they own in the district is in their name or in the name of their spouse or civil union partner. The property can not in the name of a partnership, corporation, or trust. Voters can verify their registration status with the Colorado Secretary of State’s office by clicking here.

At BallotTrax, voters can receive notifications about the status of their mail ballots, from the time their County Clerk and Recorder mails the outgoing ballot to when their mailed ballot is received and counted.
