Estes Valley Voice cartoonist Dick Mulhern captures the sentiments of journalists across the state of Colorado — do not limit access to public records or public meetings.
According to Marianne Goodland, reporting for Colorado Politics, a House committee gave approval last week to a bill that would make it more difficult for the public to obtain records through the state’s open records law. The bill would also cancel a proposal that would have reversed a law that has made it harder for the public and reporters to know what lawmakers are doing.
Let the public’s business be done publicly with transparency and accountability. And do not impose unnecessary time or cost barriers for the public to access its records.
In all corners of government, let the sunshine in.
