It only took about an hour last week for the Estes Park Health Board of Directors to hear all they needed to know before authorizing CEO Vern Carda to spend up to $450,000 to implement the EPH Foundation’s project to construct a Diagnostic Imaging Center by remodeling existing space at the medical center building.
The quick decision came following an introduction of the Foundation’s plans for a May celebration gala – fundraising kickoff to mark the 50th anniversary of when the medical center became operational, and description of the work planned for the future.
Authorization of the funding includes $200,000 from the Estes Park Health Foundation and another $250,000 from Estes Park Health.
“Over the past few years, generous support from donors like you have enabled us to equip the hospital with cutting edge diagnostic imaging technology,” said Ingrid Drouin, chair of the EPH Foundation’s anniversary celebration. However, she added, “our current imaging center does not reflect the comfort and quality of care that the hospital aims to provide.”
According to Drouin, the remodeling project will enhance functionality and productivity and provide emotional comfort in a more private and patient centered environment. The foundation’s fundraising goal for the project is $200,000.
Jacob Schmitz, EPH’s senior director of support services, described elements considered when planning to reconstruct a portion of the current diagnostic imaging department to add a designated Breast Health Center.
Physical features needed to combine several types of equipment including the DEXA, ultrasound, and mammography machines with concepts of having a designated waiting room featuring soft music, soft lighting, artwork, and comfortable seating.
Also contemplated has been an idea where patients would have access to soft, warm robes and perhaps even slippers in the changing rooms, Schmitz said.
While initial schematics have been created, Schmitz said work has just begun with architectural and engineering firms. Interior renderings will be created at a later date.
“We’re now getting the physical facility to match the equipment and have everything come together into an experience that make people proud of the facility that we have here,” said Dr. John Knudtson, radiologist.
The 50th gala, named “Boots to Boutonnieres,” is set for Saturday, May 17 at the Pavillion at the Stanley Hotel. The evening is planned to kick off with a 5:30 p.m. cocktail hour, a silent auction, dinner, inspirational speakers, and live auction, all followed by a dance.
