Planning for the off-season

The Estes Chamber is sponsoring a series of three group discussions designed to assist area business owners and managers in supporting each other during the slower season. 

The first, scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 12 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at You Need Pie Diner and Bakery will focus on managing expenses, boosting off-season revenue, and maintaining financial health during this time of year.

The next meeting will focus on how to gain local business. It will take place Monday, Dec. 2 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Avant Garde Aleworks.

The third meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Bull Pin will be about how to leverage social media to help your business.

Community Gumbo Dinner

Carl Robicheaux The fifth annual gumbo dinner prepared by Estes’ own Cajun Carl Robicheaux of Elkhorn Law and his merry band of volunteers will take place Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Legion from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. RSVP to MJ Tyman at the Estes Chamber (admin@esteschamber.org) for this authentic Louisiana style gumbo that sells out every year.

EVICS Family Night

Tracy Sandoval, program director for the Alliance for Suicide Prevention for Larimer County will speak about the Family REPLY Program (resiliency, education, protecting the lives of youth) and mental wellness and support for specific youth and families. Community Legal Clinic helpline for immigrants

The Community Legal Clinic has established a temporary and free legal helpline for Estes Park immigrants who have questions or concerns about immigration issues. The helpline number is 970-591-2208. An immigration lawyer will be on call to answer the phone Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 5 pm to 8 pm. The attorney will have the ability to add a Spanish interpreter to the call for Spanish speaking callers. This helpline will be available from Nov. 25, 2024. If you call and cannot get through, please leave a message as the attorney might be helping another caller.

Estes Park School District seeks community members for long-range master planning committee

Estes Park School District is looking for approximately 10 community members for a new Long-Range Master Planning Committee that will help shape the future of district facilities, finances, and operations. This committee will look ahead 20 years to provide advisement on and strategic insights to guide the district’s development.

The district is seeking individuals with knowledge or experience in several areas: historical context of Estes Park School District; finance and budgeting, construction or facilities management, operations and logistics; organizational planning processes; academic/extracurricular program knowledge (preferred)

The committee will meet regularly from January through May 2024. The committee members will work closely with the superintendent and board of education.

Interested community members are invited to apply online through November 22, 2024.

September sales tax collections show uptick 

Town staff still is analyzing data it received from the Colorado Department of Revenue it received on Nov. 8, but it appears that September business was better than other months have been this year.

September sales tax collections of $2,958,203 increased 5.24% over September 2023 collections which totaled $2,810,817. The monthly increase brings the overall sales tax collections decline to 3.66% from 2023. Using August sales tax revenue tallies, overall sales tax collections for the year a month ago were down 4%.

Thinking of how and when to plan your time in Rocky Mountain National Park this coming summer? The national park is.

Mark May 1, 2025, on your calendar if you want to enter the park Memorial Day weekend through June. Reservations for July and unreserved times in June open on June 1. August bookings start on July 1. September bookings open on Aug, 1 and October bookings begin on Sept. 1.

Two different passes will be available again – one from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the Bear Lake corridor which includes the corridor and the rest of the park, and the other for the areas other than the Bear Lake corridor from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Entry will be allowed in two-hour windows of availability with no set time for departure.
