Rec Center Budget Meeting today at 6 p.m.

Rec center logoThe Estes Valley Recreation and Park District will hold a hearing today on its proposed budget for the upcoming year.

The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Estes Valley Community Center, 660 Community Drive.

EVRPD expects an operating revenue increase of about $95,000 next year, from about $5.3 million this year, and a non-operating revenue increase of about $445,000. That jump would be from a 2024 expected total of about $4.5 million.

The organization anticipates that operating expenses will rise from about $6.2 million to about $6.6 million, while non-operating expenses such as capital outlays, debt service, and reserve set-asides will go from about $3 million to about $3.9 million.

EVRPD provides youth and adult sports and fitness programs, operates the Community Center, and rents certain facilities to the public.

The district is governed by a five-person board of directors elected by residents of the district. Current directors are Heather Bradley, Dan Derman, Scott Dorman, Michael Fallon, and Mark Moraczewski.

The town’s trees will soon be lit up for the holidays

Caleb, a worker with Elevation Holiday Lighting who declined to provide his last name, was hanging lights on an aspen tree Friday outside Estes Park Town Hall. He and his colleagues will decorate about 100 timbers.

“What we’re doing right now is the trunk wrap,” he said.

Caleb explained that, with evergreen trees, the crew tries to create a light spectacle.

“You’ll see, up and down the strip, the canopy lights. They’ll be all the way to the top. The end goal is to get the whole tree.”

It may seem a little hard to believe amidst balmy and sunny October days, but Christmas is a mere 71 days away.
