Today, Dick Mulhern pokes a bit of fun at the Moraine Avenue roundabout, referring to it as the “Lancaster Loop.” Located right in front of the rainbow slide, the roundabout is quite the ride — a $42 million dollar ride. The Downtown Estes Loop has been a long, protracted, and expensive infrastructure project that is coming to an end, thankfully. Tragically, the construction has taken a tremendous toll on many businesses along Elkhorn Avenue, Moraine Avenue, and Riverside Drive.
And Dick also pokes some fun today at the Bobcat Stadium project. Because of state regulatory permit delays, the new stadium will not be ready for tonight’s home game as planned. Fans will still be able to show their support for the Bobcats as they play against the Granby Middle Park Panthers, but they will need to sit on the east side of the field. The new target date for completion is the homecoming game Friday, Sept. 27. Dick has a cartoon of a Bobcat front loader hard at work as an Estes Pak cheerleader roots for the construction workers. A BIG shout out to Jon Smith and his entire team at High Plains Excavation & Haulin (and yes, there is no g on the end of that word) for the demolition work they have done on the old stadium and the prep work for the new. Jon, who has two kids in the Estes Park Schools, donated his company’s services for the demo and “haulin.”
