A few minutes later, individuals in a blue-green 2016-2018 Honda Pilot with a dent in the rear passenger quarter panel drove past the two males. The driver of the vehicle fired a handgun at the victims and then proceeded south on U.S. Highway 36. No one was shot or injured in the incident.

The morning after the shooting, Estes Park Police Chief Ian Stewart described the individuals as a teen and a young adult.

Video of the vehicle driven by the shooter was captured by nearby security cameras.

According to Kate Miller, the Town of Estes Parkโ€™s public information officer, โ€œWe are proud that we were able to keep our investigator’s sole focus on this case, even as the majority of our resources were directed to work related to the Alexander Mountain Fire.โ€
