Children in Estes Park were treated to some good clean fun, courtesy of the Estes Valley Library which hosted a foam party at Stanley Park Tuesday morning.

A foam party is something like a pool party, without the pool. Foam on the Range, operated by Ann Lincoln Entertainment of Denver, provided mounds of soft, white bubbles that were projected from a canon. As the foam grew, children waded into airy froth to wiggle, giggle, and lose themselves as a sound system provided a danceable soundtrack.

According to Lincoln, the foam is created with air, water, glycerin and a biodegradable, non-toxic and hypoallergenic foaming agent. The solution is pumped through a machine that mixes the ingredients and then projects a shower of billowy foam.

Dozens of area children dressed in swimsuits and summer clothes played in the mousse. Some were bold and ran into the center of the knee-deep mound to embrace the magic. Others were tentative, touching the lather from the perimeter and then turning to an adult for assurance.

The library hosted its first foam party last year and due to popular demand, the community can look forward to an encore this time next summer, said Melanie Kozlowski, the children’s librarian. “We have worked with Ann Lincoln for several years at the library. She is a juggler, a magician, and an entertainer,” Kozlowski said.

Lincoln said she is busy nearly every day all summer long producing foam parties for libraries, church groups, and community organizations, in addition to private events.

The library is sponsoring a summer reading program, Adventure Begins at Your Library, for readers of all ages. Readers can earn prizes provided by several area merchants. The program runs through the first week in August.
