Those wanting to experience the hike to two highly rated spots with spectacular waterfalls in Rocky Mountain National Park will have to get that visit in before July 23, or after July 26. That’s because Wild Basin Road on the south side of the park near Allenspark will be closed to all traffic –vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrians – for road maintenance on a two-mile stretch during that four-day period.
The closure starts at the Wild Basin Entrance Station and includes the entire road to the Wild Basin Trailhead. The area is a fee-area inside Rocky Mountain National Park.
Road crews will spread gravel and grade the roadway to remove ruts, potholes, and improve drainage. Visitors are urged to find other areas to explore during the road maintenance period.
While not one of the most popular or well-known hiking spots in Rocky Mountain National Park, Tripadvisor rates the area as the 16th best thing to do out of 99 in Rocky Mountain National Park. Those who hike the area are in awe of the wildflowers and other natural plant life viewed on the way to Ouzel Falls and Calypso Cascades.
